報告人簡介
Dr. Sergey Popov is a leading geophysicist of the Antarctic Division of the Polar Marine Geosurvey Expedition, Russia, also associate professor of Saint Petersburg State University. For thirty years he studies Antarctica by radio-echo sounding and GPR, also subglacial lakes especially Lake Vostok.
報告簡介
Radio-echo sounding (RES) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is the main geophysical remote sensing method to study polar regions. These methods are the most important as for fundamental research as for engineering to study glaciers, reveal subglacial lakes, and investigate the permafrost. GPR is also important for creating runways on the glaciers and detecting crevasses to support logistic and scientific traverses. Examples using both of these methods will be demonstrated.
